Loading Crashes & Something New!

Hi everyone, its been a long time since I’ve touched Ripplr. This round is just a fix as you might have noticed the app crashes upon loading. This is due to a small change on tumblr’s end which caused our code to crash. We are just awaiting approval from Apple.

PS if you’re wondering what we were doing during this time, we’re going to be releasing a new game soon. Keep ya’ll posted!

There’s a crash that will prevent you from using Ripplr on iOS 6. We have pushed a fix to Apple and are awaiting approval.

There’s no ETA for this as its now on Apple’s end.

what is the difference between send and queue when posting?

Queueing gets sent to your queue, to access the queue setting for your individual blog go tumblr.com/blog//queue

You can set the times your posts are put into your main blog stream at that page.

If you just post, it goes live on your blog straight away.

Why the limit as to how far back on the dash I can go ?

There’s a limit of 250 old posts, unfortunately, this is set by Tumblr themselves.

For the beautiful new iPad retina display. The new 1.6.5 update for Ripplr has been approved and added to the App Store for you to upload. Ripplr really looks stunning.

Great app. Would be awesome if you could browse via blog rather than just your dashboard though.

We’d love to put this functionality in, but we feel that it won’t be complete without a search type function and part of the agreement we have with Tumblr is that we cannot create such functionality.

I purchased Ripplr+ on my iPad 2 and now I have adverts again on my new iPad. Is the update going to fix this as well?

Although the prompt asks you to purchase Ripplr+ again, if you enter in your password it will prompt you again with:

“You have already purchased this item, would you like to download it again?”

The purchase is logged as part of your Apple ID and thus you need to use the same Apple ID login that you did with your previous generation iPad.

We are adding a function to retrieve these purchases more obviously though.

The New iPad and Ripplr

The new iPad’s screen is absolutely gorgeous so we’ve been working hard to update Ripplr’s graphics to accommodate the new display. We’ve pushed the new version to Apple for the regular approval process and expect it to be out after a week.

Also in this update we’ve added a switch inside the Settings.app which allows you to reset the login credentials in case Ripplr gets stuck.

Hello everyone!

We’ve added two new niceties in Ripplr this update. You can now fast reblog to your queue so you can trickle your posts throughout your queue schedule instead of reblogging right away. You can still reblog straight away with this setting on if you enter the full screen post view and hit the reblog button.

The old animated gif engine has been ripped out and replaced it with a much more elegant solution, not only will it crash less with gifs, we feel that its reliable enough to have it animate in the tile view so you immediately know if its animated!

As it was just approved by Apple, expect the update to come in a few hours. You can grab ripplr from this link.

Ripplr 1.5.6 update

We just updated Ripplr to fix a few bugs, notably a long passwords with symbols should be able to log in to Tumblr using Ripplr now. We tested up to 50 characters and as many symbols as we could find, if anyone still has trouble, drop us a line in our ask box or on Twitter.

Our next update fixes text entries with images, where the images would sit on top of the text.

Apple has just approved our newest update of Ripplr. It contains some vital bug fixes for people using iOS 4.x. A huge performance upgrade and some bug fixes. We’ve added a way to turn off Tweeting, just pop into the settings menu and you can toggle it there.

Tumblr Scams & Account Security

For the past week we’ve started seeing a lot more tumblr scams, free tickets, best buy, coffee. They all have the “Tumblr. Staff Blog” title to masquerade as legitimate deals, but they link you to advertisements and probably expose you to security exploits.

I have a few recommendations:

- Avoid clicking shortened links.

- Don’t put your Tumblr email and password anywhere. If the website or app is using oAuth or xAuth it should be okay. Unlike many other iPad Tumblr Apps we’ve implemented xAuth into Ripplr from the beginning.

- If you’re logging into Tumblr, make sure there’s a signed certificate. This is represented by a little padlock or a nice green block near the address bar, depending on your web browser. Click it to make sure.

- For the extra paranoid, change your passwords!

Hi bplusw,

We don’t have that implemented yet, we’re trying to figure out the best way to implement it though. Its not so much a technical problem as it is to map it to the UI as not to confuse people.

What about Ripplr+ without annoying adds? It doesn't show up in iTunes.

Ripplr + does remove advertisements.

To find it in the Ripplr App, just tap the Settings Cog and look for it under Store.

My question is with regards to secondary blogs. Does ripper have a way of switching between blogs?

We were recently able to test Ripplr on iOS 4.x devices and we found it was inoperable! We spent a few days rejigging our code to be 4.x compliant and we have just submitted the app to the App Store.

So all those who rang in and told us about the black screen on startup, thanks for all your help! We were able to nail this one thanks to you all.
